Tubagus Salamudin Al-amin Cotton Candy Series (Orange), 2023
We are pleased to release this original work from Tubagus Salamudin Al-amin!
This series draws inspiration from the concept of "determination." Throughout life, we face numerous obstacles that can hinder our progress toward our goals. Yet, these challenges often help us build resilience and strength, preparing us to tackle whatever lies ahead. Determination is crucial for anyone striving to achieve great things. These paintings embody the mantras we use to remind ourselves to persist and stay focused until we attain our desires.
The concept of this Cotton Candy series was inspired by my visit to a night market where I discovered a stall selling cotton candy, which is very popular among children because it is shaped into cute characters well-loved by the local community. Additionally, there's an interesting connection when thinking about cotton candy, which is made from sugar. Being in Malang, East Java, Indonesia, specifically in Malang Regency, I noticed the numerous sugarcane plantations that can be processed into sugar. I admire this area because its residents can manage their natural resources for their economic business center. Not only that, but they also preserve and sustain Indonesia's natural wealth. This is what I wanted to capture and express in this series of works
