Gladys Ng (Tinymaple)

Art inspiration: Gladys Ng (Tinymaple) is a Hong Kong based painter and illustrator, her works aim to explore the solitude experiences of living in a complex city with first-person perspective. She is usually inspired by the sparks and emotions evoked by fleeting moments of daily life. By depicting the scenery and spaces observed in the city, she expresses individual freedom and the possibility of choice, as well as the existence and responsibilities faced in society. Her art conveys the solitude experience in city life and expresses the sense of alienation between individual and society.

In the fast-paced rhythm of Hong Kong, she seeks tranquillity, choosing to retain what she wishes to see and omitting what she wants to ignore, much like learning to cope with the absurd chaos of modern society. Her artworks aim to provide viewers with a peaceful and relaxing viewing experience, and offer momentary comfort by illustrating visual rhythms and details through repetitive brushstrokes and harmonious colour.

The occasional display of a powerful force and my own unique view of life and death are also part of my inspiration.
